OUTLINE:

Enemies we don’t embrace:

  1. National or international warfare is not in view in Romans 12.

  2. Opponents in games or sporting events are not in view in Romans 12.

  3. Encouraging evil is not in view in Romans 12.

Enemies we embrace with love: (compare Matt. 5:43-48)

  1. Antagonistic People (vv. 43, 44).

  2. Evil and Unrighteous People (v. 45).

  3. Selfish People (v. 46).

  4. “Different" People (v. 47).

A Plan for Loving Hard People

  1. Accept them the way they are (vv. 17, 18, 21).

  2. Pray for them and bless them (v. 14; Matt. 5:44).

  3. Give to them (v. 15-16, 19-21; Matt. 5:45).

OUTLINE:

A right view of ourselves based on Rom.12:1-5, we are:

  • Creations of God that owe God living service and worship (v.1).

  • Thinking vessels of God for life within the will of God (v.2).

  • Recipients of God’s grace gifts under a sovereign allotment of faith (v.3).

  • Individual functioning local church members (v.4).

  • Committed interdependent members of Christ’s local body (v.5).

The next step after professing faith in Christ Jesus is Responsible Church Membership!

Christ’s Mission was Church Membership under Elders

  • Heb. 10:24-25

  • 1 Thess.5:12; Heb. 13:17

Designed to do life together

  • Love one another (John 13:34, 35; 15:12, 17; Rom. 13:8; 1Cor. 16:20; 2Cor. 13:12; 1Thess. 3:12; 4:9; 1Pet. 1:22; 4:8; 5:14; 1John 3:11, 23; 4:7, 11, 12; 2John 5).

  • Show the same care for one another (1Cor.12:25).

  • Be kind to one another (Eph.4:32).

  • Be hospitable to one another (1Pet.4:9).

  • Show tolerance for one another (Eph.4:2; Col.3:13).

  • Be submissive to one another (Eph.5:21).

  • Serve one another (John 13:14; Gal.5:13; 1Pet.4:10).

  • Be at peace with one another (Mark 9:50).

  • Be members one of another (Rom.12:5).

  • Devoted to one another (Rom.12:10).

  • Giving preference to one another (Rom.12:10).

  • Being of the same mind with one another (Rom.12:16; 1Cor.1:10).

  • Accepting one another (Rom.15:7).

  • Not judging one another (Rom.14:13; James 4:11).

  • Greeting one another (Rom.16:16).

  • Waiting for one another (1Cor.11:33).

Church membership is what Christ wants!
