Sermon: Exodus 20:14 - “Sexual Fidelity” - David Rountree

OUTLINE:

The Relationship for Sexual Fidelity

  1. Marriage is a creation ordinance.

  2. Marriage is God's design for sexual expression.

  3. Marriage is the only means for undefiled sex.

  4. Marriage is a picture of Christ and his relationship with his church.

The Requirements for Sexual Fidelity

  1. It involves a broken covenant with God. (1Cor. 6:15-20)

  2. Without repentance it condemns the soul (1 Cor. 6:9-10).

  3. It involves a death sentence (Lev.20:10).

  4. It involves what is needless (1 Cor. 7:2).

  5. It involves a drain upon financial resources (Prov.6:26).

  6. It involves a destruction of reputation (Prov.6:32,33).

The Remedies for Maintaining Sexual Fidelity

  1. Repent (Matt. 5:29,30).

  2. Love your own wife or husband (Prov.5:18-20).

  3. Flee immorality (1 Cor. 6:18).

  4. Be diligent to get the fear of God into your heart (Prov. 16:6).

    • Destroying life disrespects God's image.

    • Destroying life makes noise in heaven.

    • Destroying life is devilish.

    • Destroying life invokes God's curse.

  2. Ways of preserving life.

    • We preserve life by defending it.

    • We preserve life by not neglecting to maintain life.

  3. What if we haven’t preserved life?

    • Realize we can obey only by the work of the Holy Spirit.

    • Acknowledge our disobedience.

    • Realize genuine confession and repentance of sin involves a new lifestyle.

    • Claim God's complete and full cleansing and forgiveness.
